Was edge moving to Smackdown an accident?

I heard that it was and that it was due to mr.kennedy's injury and for him being the MITB winner , he needed to hand it over to a guy that had a lot of momentum with him big enough to be WHC and be the top dog of smackdown or was it deliberatly done ? Also what if edge never left RAW , would he still be the top heel on RAW and not RKO , making him a mid-card wrestler again?
