Ice Fishing?

I'm getting ready to buy things to go ice fishing this winter, and I am wondering, is a hand ice- auger just as good as a $500 one? I know it will take longer, but I don't have that much money to buy one like that. Also, what kind of rods/baits to use? I am going on a lake with muskie and walleye and b and trout.
