Has anyone here had any success matching their natural color with permanent dye?

After years of coloring my hair, I have finally decided to go back to my natural color. But, there was no way I was going to grow out my colored hair with a stark light brown root line. So, I decided to dye it back to my natural light ash brown color. After a couple of tries, I think I finally have a result my natural color can blend inconspicuously into. Unfortunately, it's a bit too soon to be sure. I want to know about your experiences with this situation and if you ever had any success. Tips are welcome!
